When you hear the word massage, many thoughts come to mind such as relaxation, revitalization, relief of muscle pain, to name just a few. Massage is one of the oldest health practices, found in ancient Chinese medical texts written some 4000 years ago. Hippocrates also wrote of massage that “rubbing can bind a joint that is too loose and loosen a joint that is too rigid”.
In order to practice massage in New York, a therapist must have at least 1,000 hours of education in Anatomy and Physiology, Neurology, Kinesiology, understand all of the systems of the body and how they relate to each other. In addition, they must learn Western and Eastern massage theory and techniques.
